Sherrilyn Kenyon Booksigning

Tuesday, I had the pleasure of attending Sherrilyn Kenyon's booksigning at Barnes and Noble, here in Houston, whoo-hoo!!

Here's what happened:

12:30pm- Hmm... I know the signing isn't until 7pm, but what if there's already a line? Well, let me call the Barnes and Noble and see what they say.

Okay, so far no lines. They do mention something about color coded cards and book purchased before hand. I tell them that I've already purchased my books and have a receipt (I leave out the part that I purchased them on Amazon.com, lol).

2:45pm- My coworker is on her break and jokingly asks me if I've called B&N again... I haven't, but that's not a bad idea, I tell her, lol. I call B&N again, and still no line.... again, they let me know about book purchases and cards.

4:30pm- I leave work and make my way to the bookstore!!

5pm- I've arrived... two hours early :) Good thing, too, because I see some people already seated in the signing area. I would say there are about twenty of us (but, umm... I'm really not too good at guessing those kind of things, lol)

5:30pm- When I went to the bookstore, I brought with me my 2007 RT bag, because it was big enough to carry the books I was going to have signed. I had 4copies of Acheron with me... and Acheron isn't just a small paperback novel, let me tell you... No, Acheron is a hardcover novel that's more than 700pgs... and I have 4 with me! lol. Okay, so I have my copy, two copies for two different friends, and one for Pam, my blog winner *bg* I've already told myself that I don't need to buy another book. Do. Not. Buy. Another. Book. Ali!!

Ugh, but they've put out all of Sherrilyn's releases... how could I not stand up and look, right?? They have all her backlist titles, dang it. So, I go to look and see Fantasy Lover... I'm sure I have this at home somewhere... but, that's not signed, I think to myself, lol. Okay, so let me get one more for me *bg*

Oh, wait... there are anthologies that Sherrilyn has been a part of, too... and you all know how much I love anthologies... and how much I love giving away books... so, you guessed it, I bought 4anthologies to ask Sherrilyn to sign for winners on my blog, lol. With my five new books I make my way to the register, lol.

... then I call my cousin to check something for me online... and as a thanks for her help, I ask her if she wants a signed book. She's never read Sherrilyn Kenyon before (*gasp* I know, lol) but would like a copy of Fantasy Lover, too... okay... so I pick that up and on my way to the register a second time I see a trade size anthology with Sherrilyn in it on the clearance section. So... I pick up two of those, lol, and check out.

6pm- I get a phone call and it turns out to be a reader friend, Julia (escondita), who asks if I'm going to the signing... turns out she's on her way with her daughter *bg* By this time there's over sixty people, but I still have three empty seats next to me (I don't think I smell too bad, lol) so I save two for Julia and her daughter.

6:45pm- Author Dianna Love arrives *g* She was very nice and fun as she talked with us before Sherrilyn arrived. She mentioned there would be giveaways :)

7pm- Sherrilyn Kenyon arrives!! The stories are true and she is just nice as she can be *bg* She stands as she chats with us and answers some questions from the readers. I was just in awe *bg*

7:30pm- They call the first group to stand in line for the signing... another good thing about arriving early, I got the green card, which means I'm in line first *bg* Although, since I'm as slow as molasses, I'm at the end of this line, lol

There was an announcement earlier, that the readers must already have Acheron to be in the first lines to sign... otherwise you must wait until the end. Now, each reader that has Acheron may get three other backlist titles signed. This is for a total of 4books for each reader. Um, remember that 4books is what I came in with, right? lol Well, I'm due to go into work, so I know that as much as I'd like to, I can't stay until the very end of the signing... so, luckily, Julia and her daughter were kind enough to take 3 of my books each to get signed. That still leaves two more, lol

I'm in line and two more ladies join me at the end... I notice that one only has a total of three books, so I ask if she'll get one of mine signed *bg* She said 'yes' *phew* That still left one... one that I never got signed because I was too nervous to ask anyone else, lol.

Now, during the wait to get my books signed, Dianna Love is doing the raffle drawings... you can hear winners scream and shout in joy when their number is called. Unlike myself... who, when my number is called I just raise my hand as one of the B&N employees ask if that's my number, lol. I tell smile and nod my head and she goes to pick up my prize. One of the readers in front of me smiles and tells me that I'm supposed to shout... ugh, I can feel my face getting red... and sure enough, she laughs a little and tells me, 'Aw, you're getting red.' Gee, thanks. LOL Yes, I am not one who enjoys attention, lol

Now, guess what I won??? A t-shirt with a Dark Hunter manga picture!! How cool was that? *bg*

8:30pm- I'm finally getting my book signed by Sherrilyn!! Okay... I think I've been bit overwhelmed now with the crowds and my nerves are getting frazzled... because as I'm getting my books signed by Sherrilyn I start to get watery eyed, lol. I don't know what came over me. Here is one of the nicest authors (actually, most authors I've met are as nice as they can be *bg*) and I'm now mute, lol. She talked with me and comments that I'm very quiet, lol. All I can do is murmer back a reply and nod my head like a fool. (I don't even think I acted this weird when I roomed with my fav author Maya Banks, lol) I thank her and move on :)

9pm- Julia and her daughter are now getting theirs and my books signed... now, Julia has chatted with Sherrilyn before and so there they were just chatting away... I'm so jealous, lol. I took a pic of Sherrilyn, Julia and her daughter and they were nice enough to take a pic of me and Sherrilyn, too *bg*

I say my good-byes as it is now time for me to go to work :( Oh well, I had a blast and am just as happy as can be that I got to go in the first place *bg*

**********
Now, I have a giveaway!! This weekends giveaway is for the book I didn't get signed... I know, I know, you want the signed copies *bg* but, rest assured, I will be giving those away, too. Also included with this book will be some promo goodies... an Acheron bumper sticker, a bookmark of Sherrilyn's upcoming release, One Silent Night, and a postcard of her upcoming anthology Dead After Dark.

I'm been to a couple signings... Linda Lael Miller, Debbie Macomber and the Seattle writers conference. No embarassing stories, but then I didn't stick around to talk.

I did go to Sherrilyn's signing in Seattle, but wasn't early and was number 125 in line. 3+ hours later they were only up to 80 or so and I gave up and went home without a signed copy of Acheron. :(

There are so many wonderful authors whose signings I would like to attend, but, unfortunately, have not had the opportunity so far due to work and family. My turn will come eventually and I will enjoy every second of it. A couple of my favorites would be Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jenna Black, Nalini Singh, Kim Harrison, Karen Kelley and Jackquelyn Frank to name a few.

LOL Ali, I so sympathise with being quiet and tongue tied. I can't talk to people at all, I'd just go bright red.

Great you won the T, Ali, and thanks again for lugging one of those heavy Acheron books for me, lol.

I haven't been to a signing yet, as my local Borders doesn't seem to encourage them anymore. But maybe now that we have a large BN in our mall, they might start doing them. I'm shy with people I don't really know and would have been quite like you, and sure wouldn't have shouted when I won either, but if my sister was with me, she's got lungs, lol.

Don't enter me in this contest, happy to have just won Acheron and I do have it, that was a good one. Good luck everyone.

Hey Ali - I have never been to a book signing. So no freakout, weird or embarrassing moments.

Signings I would like to go to Maya Banks, Jaci Burton, the other WM ladies, Lara Adrian, Shayla Black/Shelley Bradley.

Thanks Ali!! I'm sure I'm going to enjoy my new signed copy of Sherrilyon Kenyon's Fantasy Lover! :)

The very first booksigning I went to was to the one in Dallas, with you! I had never been to one! It was nice to meet Melissa Schroeder (and we got to see her on two different occassions too...) and Shayla Black, and I forgot the other nice lady too, lol. I enjoyed it. Hopefully we get to go to the one in San Marcos.

I've actually never been to a signing before, I know I should be ashamed. I'm hoping to attend one soon for the experience. I expect it to be great and giddy with excitement.

I went to see Nicholas Sparks when he was in town on tour a few years back. I wanted to go so badly, so even though I'd only been out of the hospital for 2 days (after having given birth to my youngest daughter) I insisted on going. I was sore and tired from all the standing when all was done (took baby with me), but it was worth every second. I got to have my picture taken with Nicholas, got his autograph, and got to hear him talk about his books/writing/etc. It was an absolute blast!!!!!

Why can't you edit comments? Just realised I never actually answered the question.

Nope, never been to a signing, we don't tend to have them here, well not for anyone I read anyway.

Jayne Ann Krentz with all her aka's. That's who I'd like to see. Must have all her books except the old Harlequins she did.

I have never been to a book signing. I think I would be too shy to say anything to an author. I would love to have Sherrilyn Kenyon, Keri Arthur, Nalini Singh and JR Ward sign books for me.
