Simply Interviewed: Anna J Evans

Hi, Anna! I want to give a big thanks for being here this week and talking to us about your Perfectly Wicked Series. And now for the torture... I mean questions, to begin ;)

Anna: Lol! Thanks for having me Ali!

*Ali: First off, can you let us in on any current or upcoming projects? Can you tell us about the next book in the Perfectly Wicked Series?

Anna: Wow, projects! I've got a ton. I've got a Torrid Tarot book called "Love Fool" coming out October 5th with EC and then two co written books with December Quinn coming out in November and January. "Demon's Triad" (the January book) is a menage we've been told will earn itself an X rating so I'm pretty excited to see that one come out. Naughty Anna, lol!

The next in the Perfectly Wicked is entitled "Beauty Sleep", and is tentatively slated for a February release. It's the sexy story of the wicked fairy from the sleeping beauty myth. She's a tortured soul who hooks up with a real life prince for a little action and adventure and a whole lot of outdoor nookie. I just love outdoor nookie, in my books of course ;).

As far as works in progress, I've got a hot BDSM trilogy in the works that I'm really excited about. I don't go into the hard core stuff, but I love the fantasy of giving up control to an alpha male. I mean...what's not to like about that?

*Ali: What do you enjoy most about writing this series? Least?

Anna: I loved finding a way to give these wicked women their happy ever afters. I think women, especially stepmothers, have been unfairly stereotyped in a lot of fairy tales. It was empowering to change the endings for these bad girls. The least favorite...hmmm...wondering if they would sell? Lol. I love writing so there is really no least favorite part, though it can be challenging to find the time to write all the stories in my head with three kiddos underfoot.

*Ali: What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

Anna: Red wine. I LOVE red wine. I became a bit of a wine snob when I was living in California, and it's been hard to give up good wine even though I now live in a state where you can't get a fantastic bottle of vino for five bucks.

*Ali: Where can readers and fans find you online, or more about you and your books?

Anna: Fine me at my website http://annajevans.com. From there you can find my bookshelf with all my books as well as links to join my newsletter and yahoo chat groups, and links to past newsletters and my free ezine.

*Ali: And now, because I love to know what others are reading what book was your last favorite read? And why?

Anna: The last book I read was Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. I have a young adult book I'm shopping with a similar title, so I figured I should read the original. It was wonderful! Very witty and teen-riffic. My favorite grown up book....hmmm...I really can't say. I guess the last book I read that I really enjoyed was "Catch a Mate" by Gena Showalter. I love her voice, very fun and sassy.

*Ali: Thanks for spending this week with us, Anna :)

Anna: You're most welcome Ali! Thanks for having me.

Excerpt: Bad Apple by Anna J Evans

Bad Apple
3rd in the Perfectly Wicked Series
Released August 22nd from Ellora's Cave

BLURB:

Some women are misunderstood, others are a misdemeanor waiting to happen…
Katarina was a very bad girl, but she spent five years in the Dungeon paying for her crimes and made a vow to leave her wicked ways behind her. She's praying a make-over and a stint on Kingdom City's newest reality show, Real Life Ways to Catch a King, will help her get back on her feet. Unfortunately the show's producer, notorious bad boy, Serge, is making it hard for her to resist giving in to her naughtier nature…

Serge is looking to turn his life around. He wants a wife and a family, and a place in respectable society. Taking up with a former Wicked Queen with a penchant for poison apples isn't on his agenda. But Kat quickly proves to be irresistible, and when a mutual affection for public passion turns into something more, he has to make a decision. Break the heart of the only woman he's ever loved, or risk forever being known as a "bad apple".

EXCERPT:

"Serge? Hello?" Kat called cautiously from the entrance to the men's locker room.

"Is there anyone in here?"

It was after eleven on a Friday night and the place appeared deserted. She hadn't seen a soul except Serge and herself—other than Molly, who had clearly been on her way out—since she'd walked past the bored attendant at the ground floor entrance. Still, she really didn't want to burst in on any manly gym rats hardcore enough to spend their Friday night pumping iron.

Of course, she was spending her Friday night in the same fashion. What did that say about her? Yet another question she didn't want to answer. She was full of them tonight.

"Serge?" she called again, hearing nothing but the sound of a single shower hitting the elegant Italian tiles. Decadently outfitted showers were one of the touches that made her club the most exclusive in the city.

She knew she should have sold her lifetime membership after she was released from the dungeon and pocketed the money, but it was one of the few places where she still felt welcome. Though she'd never had many friends at the club, the few people who had known her—like Molly—seemed glad to see her back at the gym, looking healthy and determined to stay that way.

"Hello? Is there anyone here?" she asked one more time before she eased through the doorway.

So this was the men's locker room. It looked exactly like the women's except it was done in muted browns and yellows instead of peaches and pinks. She preferred the more manly colors herself, but then she had longstanding issues with pink. Some redheads could pull it off, but she didn't consider herself one of them.

The sound of the shower led her down the hallway at the rear of the room, where she prayed she would find Serge. Surprising him at the urinal wouldn't be nearly as sexy. The shower was better, much better, especially if she wanted to pull off the whole "kiss and make up" thing. Her hands shook as she opened the glass door that led into the shower-sauna-hot tub area, more nervous than she could remember being in years. She paused just inside, taking a deep breath of hot, humid air, fighting the urge to turn and flee.

There was no reason to be nervous! What man wouldn't want a naked women to surprise him in the shower? There was no way he'd tell her to get lost, to take her itty-bitty-titties and leave him in peace. Right?

"Right," Kat whispered to herself, ignoring her racing heart as she peeled off her white t-shirt and black spandex pants. The sports bra, underwear and socks went next. And then…

Then she was naked and freezing in the middle of the men's locker room, getting ready to surprise a man she wasn't even one hundred percent sure was Serge. Shit! She truly was crazy not to have thought of that before stripping down. What if Serge hadn't gone to the locker room? What if he'd headed down to his limo without bothering to shower in his haste to get as far away from her as possible? What if—

Quit freaking out, and take a peek inside! It's not too late to grab your clothes and run.

Right. Kat tiptoed to the last shower stall, cursing the wavy glass that made it hard to see clearly who was behind it. She could make out a hint of tanned skin and dark hair and that was about it. Half the men in the gym met that description. Damn it! She was just going to have to take a chance and hope that she wasn't preparing to flash a total stranger.

"If you're not Serge, then I'm not here for you." She spoke in a loud, clear voice as she threw open the door to the shower. Not the sexiest greeting, but it got the point across.

Thank god, it wasn't a point that needed to be made.

"Even if I weren't myself, I think I would try my best to convince you." Serge smiled and shot her a heated look, appearing only the slightest bit surprised to see her nude in the men's locker room. The man was impossible. Did nothing shock him? "You're even sexier without any clothes on."

"That's nice of you to say." Kat stepped into the stall and closed the door behind her, an electric thrill of anticipation running through her body when she stood only a foot away from him.

He was also sexier without clothes, unbelievably sexier. All those hard, sculpted muscles were on display, slick from the shower and practically begging someone to run their tongue over them and lick away the beads of water. His shoulders looked even wider than they had in his suit and the raw power in his arms was obvious as he ran hands through his wet hair, flipping it out of his eyes. More curly black hair dusted his chest and tapered to a trail that led her eyes down over his flat stomach and then inevitably lower.

God help her, he had the most perfect cock she'd ever seen. It was the same shade of dark tan as the rest of his skin with a thick head and a luscious ridge of flesh where head became shaft. Imagining how that ridge would feel as he tunneled in and out of her, watching him swell under her gaze, made her pussy even wetter than it was already. Soon he was fully engorged, unbelievably thick with a glistening teardrop of fluid on the tip of his cock that was clearly distinguishable from the water that flowed down his body.

It was perfect. He was perfect.

So perfect, she almost couldn't believe that he was hot for her, for her and her nonexistent breasts and frizzy hair and apparently undesirable scrawniness.

"I wanted to say I was sorry," Kat mumbled, the haze of lust that clouded her mind making her voice husky. "There was no need to be such a cunt."

"Katarina." Her name was a gentle warning and Kat felt herself blush.

"Right, sorry, I know you don't like the dirty mouth." She tried to smile, but failed. She was suddenly ashamed, certain that no matter how much she physically aroused him, Serge would decide she wasn't worth the trouble.

She was turning to leave when he reached out and captured her around the waist with one strong arm, pushing her back against the cold tile.

Kat gasped as his warm body pressed tightly against her, the contrast of his heat at her front and cold tile at her back making her nipples diamond-hard and ridiculously sensitive. His cock pressed against her belly, hard and demanding. She tried to wedge her hand between them, to get her fingers wrapped around his thick shaft, but he captured her wrists, pinning them to the tile above her, letting her know that she wouldn't be calling the shots.

"I adore your mouth, but you taint your beauty with your speech." His jaw clenched and every muscle flexed, as if he were finding it difficult to keep from thrusting inside of her that very instant. The desire in his eyes, clear in every line of his body, made her tremble.

"You don't think I'm beautiful." She fought the urge to moan as he pushed his hips closer until she was forced into even more intimate contact with his arousal. She squirmed in his arms, wanting to loop a leg around his waist. She ached to rock her slick sex against him, to ease the tension coiling low in her body, but found herself unable to move.

"Don't tell me what I think." He held her still, immobilized, and her heart raced at the strange thrill of being completely under this man's power.

"You were trying to fatten me up."

"Stop fighting me, Kat." His lips dropped to her throat, the warm water hitting his back spraying lightly into her face as he kissed and licked and her pulse sped impossibly faster.

"I'm not fighting you." She moaned as he bit down on the sensitive skin at her throat, then let his lips play softly at her ear.

"Then stop fighting yourself." He transferred control of her wrists to one hand and cupped her face with the other, tilting her up to meet his lips.

His pressure was firm and powerful, commanding yet strangely tender. Kat melted into the kiss, oblivious to everything but the feel of this man's lips, teeth and tongue swiftly driving her out of her mind. No one had ever kissed her like this, ever. No other man had ever made her feel so precious, so necessary, as if the taste of her were vital to his very existence. She was so consumed by him, she hardly noticed the moment he released her wrists, but suddenly found her nails digging into his shoulders and her bottom possessed by a pair of strong, warm hands.

His hands slid up her sides, teased her breasts and ventured back down to cup her ass, but she could feel his main attention was still with the kiss they shared. Every movement of his lips, every nip of his teeth was an erotic communication. The kiss crashed through her defenses, making her ache to slip even closer to him, to press and push and find a way to merge with him completely. She wanted to abandon every last vestige of control and lose herself in the sensations he promised her with every sweep of his tongue. She wanted that sense of completion, ached to know the erotic freedom, the emotional liberation of surrendering herself completely to another person. She realized in that moment that if she were ever going to be capable of abandon, it would be with this man. Him, and only him.

Guest Blogger: Anna J Evans

Today, we have author Anna J Evans here to talk about her Perfectly Wicked Series. If you don't already know, this series is a retelling of some well known fairy tales with a twist, which is currently out in ebooks with Ellora's Cave. Now let's see what she has to say...

***The Perfectly Wicked Series***

There are presently four books in the Perfectly Wicked series--sexy retellings of the stories behind the wicked women from popular fairy tales--and I'd love to write more if the books do well. I've always been a huge fan of stories that put new twists on old myths, but I'd never seen anyone tackle the bad girls I had always been so curious about. Were they really that bad? Maybe they were misunderstood? Maybe they were dealt a bad hand and were just making the best of things? Maybe they were heroines in their own right desperate for a second chance?

I wanted to give them their shot at happy ever after with some of the hottest heroes I've ever written. Sexy Dominant Frank in "Main Attraction", wild and impulsive Heath in "Sinfully Sweet", and European bad boy Serge in "Bad Apple" all have a special place in my heart. These were my first novellas--ever--and I channelled every bit of sexy inspiration I could find into their creation.

The fourth in the series, "Beauty Sleep" was written nearly two years after I finished "Bad Apple", but was no less fun to write. The tale of the wicked fairy from "
Sleeping Beauty" is one of my favorite stories. I can't wait for it to release with Ellora's Cave this February. It's a leap year baby :), February 29th.

The feedback from readers on these books has been so gratifying. I love reader email, and to hear someone say they enjoyed a book is absolutely the best reward to being a writer--besides being able to buy my kids shoes for school, of course :).

Friday Interview: Ashlyn Chase

Today, the lovely Ashlyn Chase has stopped by for an interview...and no chocolate bribing was neccessary, how sweet is that ;)

*Ali: Hi, Ash and thanks for taking this week to be a guest on my blog :)
Ashlyn Chase: I'm always happy to spend time with you, Ali, and get to know other
readers better.
*Ali: Can you tell us a little bit about any current or upcoming projects?

AC: I just signed two contracts for future books. One is a sequel novel to Heaving Bosoms called Quivering Thighs. The other is a fun little ghost story called Death By Delilah (a novella.)
What I'm working on now is a) two sequels to Being Randy starring Sky's older brothers, Forest and River. The three of them together in print will be known as Love Thy Nature.
and b)I'm cowriting an Older woman/Younger man story and we're just in the brainstorming stage right now.

*Ali: Which of your published books would you consider your favorite? and Why?

AC: That's like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. LOL. I love them all equally. No, I really do!
*Ali: Is there any genre you haven't tried that you'd like to?

AC: I hope to make one of the new sequels a time travel. I'll be bringing River back to the Apache Wars.
*Ali: You have a lot of humor in your romances. Do you find that hard to write?
AC: Humor is one of the hardest things to write. I used to think it could be taught, and then I tried to lead a couple of workshops. Either I'm a lousy teacher or you really do need a good sense of humor to write the stuff. I've gone through times of crisis when I couldn't write a minute of comedy, never mind a whole book full of it. You can't force it. If a cute line comes to me, I use it. If it's too stupid, I'll edit it out later.
*Ali: What book was your last favorite read? and Why?

AC: I'm actually still reading it. Good Intentions by Rebecca Williamson. She's my critique partner (even though she lives on the other side of the world) and I love everything she writes. She had someone else critique this one for her. So, I bought it. LOL. Any of her stuff at Liquid Silver Books is awesome.
*Ali: And, now, where can readers find you online?

AC: I'm pretty much exclusive to Ellora's Cave and their affiliates now. Cerridwen Press has one of my books (Heaving Bosoms) and the rest are with EC. I have a few new things coming from The Lotus Circle too--mostly metaphysical hypnosis CD's.

*Ali: Thank you, Ash, for taking the time to spend this week with us :) I love the fact that Demolishing Mr. Perfect has found a new home in Ellora's Cave and can't wait to see what else you have in store for us.

************

Oh my gosh... Quivering Thighs, is that title not just brilliant as her sequel to Heaving Bosoms? lol... you've got to love her sense of humor.
Oooh, and now that I know she plans on two sequel's to Being Randy I'll have to hound her about that, lol.
And now I'm off to check out Rebecca Williamson :)

Have any other questions for Ash? Ask away and maybe I can drag her back ;)

Don't forget, leaving a comment for Ashlyn will get you in the drawing for an ebook copy of Demolishing Mr. Perfect.

Excerpt: Demolishing Mr. Perfect by Ashlyn Chase

Demolishing Mr. Perfect

By: Ashlyn Chase

Released August 15, 2007 from Ellora’s Cave

Blurb:

Even though she’s a nurse at a sperm bank, meeting young, virile medical students every day, Natalie Watson’s relationships always seem to suffer from “stress fractures.” With a hopeless prognosis, she seeks metaphysical help. The tealeaf reader tells her there's a perfect man for her, but she might have to change her definition of perfect.

Shane (Crusher) Derby, owner of Derby Demolition, takes out his aggressions all day long by blowing up buildings and smashing the contents. He couldn’t be mellower until the nurse in the adjacent building tells him to keep it down. He’s making her donors jump and miss their cups. And he has the nerve to think it’s funny.

Excerpt:

Shane Derby called over his shoulder to his men. “Clear!” He pushed the plunger and stepped back as the charges detonated. The decaying, four-story building imploded and came crashing down in a pile of concrete, wood, marble, and dust. His men, many of whom were college boys working through the summer, cheered. The building had collapsed in on itself and had barely littered the street. A perfect demolition.

One of them yelled over to him. He removed his earplugs and smiled.

“Oh, sorry. I said nice job, Boss.”

“Yeah, that was a thing of beauty.”

He studied the site and pointed to a corner that hadn’t quite come down. “We’ll have to take the wrecking ball to that,” he called over to his assistants. And we’ll need to take down the abutting wall of the building next-door brick by brick. I estimated about a week for the job, and I think that’s right on target.”

Movement out of the corner of his eye caught Shane’s attention. A cute lithe figure wearing a nurse’s uniform bounded down the stairs of the building next-door two at a time. Her long, shiny, dark hair fluttered in the breeze. She made purposeful strides right toward him. As she approached, he could see her cute face, but her jaw was set and her blue eyes were blazing.

“Are you in charge here?” she shouted upon reaching him.

“Shane Derby at your service, miss, but call me Crusher. What can I do for you?”

“You can start by telling me why you didn’t notify the area businesses that you’d be blasting today.”

“Not my job, miss… Miss? I didn’t catch your name.”

“Never mind my name. And what kind of irresponsible attitude is that? ‘Not my job.’” She stood with her feet apart, arms folded, and as immobile as a brick wall. For a small girl, she had ample breasts that jutted over her arms and separated in two nicely delineated peaks.

Shane wasn’t used to women yelling at him about his attitude or anything else. “Look, Miss never-mind-my-name, the building owner should have done that, if he thought you needed to know. Maybe he thought it didn’t matter. I was just hired to blow it up, and I do what I’m paid for.”

“How arrogant. Of course we needed to know!” She took one step closer. “You just cost us some valuable samples.”

This beautiful spitfire barely came up to his shoulder, but there she stood on the sidewalk, almost toe to toe with him, leaning toward him with hands on her hips. It would have been a menacing pose if she were bigger. Despite her anger, Shane felt an attraction to her full lips, cute freckled nose and intense blue eyes, as well as the passion and purpose this woman seemed to have. She was so unlike the empty-headed bimbettes he’d been meeting for the past few months. His masculinity stirred in his jeans. “What kind of samples?”

“I work at the sperm bank next door. They were donor samples. Thanks to your fireworks, two of my donors missed their cups and a third is so traumatized, he won’t get another erection for a month!”

Was she joking? Could someone be putting her up to this? Her demeanor said she was dead serious. Shane reared back and an explosion of laughter erupted from deep in his diaphragm.

Her eyes widened and she glared at him. “You think this is funny? Some childless couple may have been counting on a donation from one of those men, and you think it’s a laughable situation?”

Shane pulled himself together and took a deep breath before he responded. “No, darlin’, but don’t worry. Me and the boys will come over after we’re through here and leave you a present.”

The nurse clenched her fists and bristled. “How dare you! Do you think you could possibly measure up to our standards? We require college graduates or at the very least four-year college students with some sort of promising talent. You and your rag-tag team would be turned down flat.” She whirled on her heel and stomped off toward her four-story brick building.

Shane’s amusement turned to disbelief. Arms folded, he called after her, “Perhaps I should have over calculated and set off that detonation just a little to the left.”

Excerpt, Rated R:

She felt his fingers plying the buttons of her blouse until each one popped open. His hand slipped around her back and unfastened her bra. She wondered how far she should let this go and then he cupped her bare breast with his whole hand, stroking the hardened nipple and she arched into it. Unable to help herself, she moaned into his mouth. She wanted him to do savage things to her.

“Natalie, honey,” he whispered.

She half-opened her heavy eyelids and stared at his moist, swollen mouth. She watched it move, but felt she was hearing him from far away.

“I’m going to get undressed. Any objections?”

She shook her head. “Please turn off the light, first.”

He grinned and unbuttoned his shirt while he walked to the light switch next to the door. “I want to see you naked before I turn it off.”

“Forget it.”

He shrugged and switched off the light. He finished stripping right there in the dim light from the next room. She rolled off the bed, pulled down the covers, and quickly shed the rest of her clothes. Standing in the doorway, his body a glowing silhouette, she could see the length and thickness of his arousal. She jumped into bed and began to pull the sheet up.

He was next to her in an instant and ripped the sheet out of her hand. “No. Let me see you.” Before she could protest, he ran his hands over her torso from her neck through her cleavage over her stomach to her lightly covered mound. She lowered her back to the mattress and let him possess her while she moaned, softly. “I don’t mind you looking at me like you’re reading a book of Braille.”

“Why are women embarrassed about their bodies? Females are much more beautiful than males with all the curves and softness.”

“I may have a soft spot or two that I’m not exactly proud of.”

“Oh yeah? Let me find it.” Shane proceeded to tickle every soft spot he could get a hold of as she shrieked and thrashed, trying to wriggle away from his torturous fingers.

“Stop! Cut it out. No more.”

“What are the magic words?”

Natalie wanted to punch him and say the magic word was him yelling “Oww.” The man was merciless. “Stop it, Shane. I mean it.” Her giggles had turned to gasps.

He eased up and said, “I’ll stop, but you haven’t said the magic words, yet. You know what they say about ticklishness?”

Her sides ached, but she managed to answer him, hoping he’d stop if she said it. “That it means you’re horny?”

“Oh, is that what it means?”

He tickled her some more, but not significantly. Her skin was still so sensitized that she jumped about a foot off the mattress and laughed again.

“Hmm. You must be horny, then.”

“If I say I am, will you stop?”

“If you say you are, I’ll do something else.”

“I am.” She hadn’t really planned to make love tonight, but she really was horny. Her center craved to be filled, and as she had just witnessed, there were worse things he could do to her.
He rested a stilled hand on her stomach and leaned over her. “You’re beautiful, Natalie. Every inch of you.”

Geese migrating toward publication

Recently, at my weight watchers meeting of all places, I had an epiphany. The leader was talking about how we should have the sense God gave a goose. I pulled my mind out of wander-mode and listened up.

It seems that nature, in its magnificent wisdom arranged the V formation in order to take advantage of what’s called “the drag.” The airflow from each goose flapping its wings helps drag the one behind it a little faster and makes the trip a little easier. The geese in the back are the ones who honk, to cheer their leaders on. If a goose happens to get shot down or drop out of formation for any reason, two more geese will leave the formation and fly down to it to see if they can help. If these two geese don’t make it back to their own group, they’ll join another as soon as they find one.

As a writer, I’ve experienced this same phenomenon in my writers’ groups. We’re inspired by those who are doing well and cheer them on. The momentum of a goal or milestone reached helps propel the person one step behind to keep going. If someone has been “shot down” by a publisher or agent, we comfort and encourage them to keep trying until they make it to their destination—publication.

Since I live in New England, one of the first signs of autumn approaching are the Canada Geese, honking and flying in formation overhead. It’s one of those little things that make me smile and look up, hoping to catch a glimpse of nature’s mysterious order. Now, I know I don't think like a normal person, but I'd like to think of myself being one of those authors who joined a writer's group and allowed herself to be dragged toward publication in 2004. Before that, I was at the back of the formation, honking my head off.

Each year, I've moved up a little. Maybe someday I'll be strong enough to lead a group, but that's not my goal. My goal is to get everyone who wants to publish to their destination, safe and warm.

Book of the Week: Demolishing Mr. Perfect

Length: Novella

Genre: Contemporary

Excerpt from Ellora's Cave:

Even though she's a nurse at a sperm bank, meeting young, virile professionals every day, Natalie Watson's relationships always seem to suffer from "stress fractures". With a hopeless prognosis, she seeks metaphysical help. The tea leaf reader tells her there's a perfect man for her, but she might have to change her definition of "perfect".

Shane (Crusher) Derby, owner of Derby Demolition, takes out his aggressions all day long by blowing up buildings and smashing the contents. He couldn't be mellower until the nurse in the adjacent building tells him to keep it down. He's making her donors jump and miss their cups. And he has the nerve to think it's funny.

Read an excerpt here.
